In the Force Awakens line, they included parts for a build-a-weapon. In Rogue One, each gets some kind of add-on action gimmick. I like this because it does not ruin the integrity of the figure. If you don't like the added weapon - don't use it.</p> <p>In this case it looks like someone has strapped a lawnmower engine to his arm, and it shoots clear red spider webs. I guess that's an interpretation of red force lightning.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/869696-3/P1011014.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=05fbd248c022bca1b99a6041aef1619d" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="Kylo Ren" /><img src="/gallery2/d/869697-3/P1011015.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=05fbd248c022bca1b99a6041aef1619d" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="Kylo Ren" /><img src="/gallery2/d/869698-3/P1011016.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=05fbd248c022bca1b99a6041aef1619d" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="Kylo Ren" /></p> <p><a href="http://amzn.to/2jsjPT0">Get your Kylo Ren at Amazon.com</a><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. But with The Force Awakens, the toy makers only could do a small amount of characters which Lucasfilm provided. This was due to the extreme secrecy surrounding the movie. As a result, you get characters like Constable Zuvio (which was cut from the movie entirely) and this blink-and-you'll-miss-him character, Goss Toowers.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/869751-3/P1010982.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=05fbd248c022bca1b99a6041aef1619d" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P1010982.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/869752-3/P1010983.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=05fbd248c022bca1b99a6041aef1619d" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P1010983.jpg" /></p> <p>Apparently Goss Toowers is a mechanic, and you might catch a glimpse of him servicing an X-wing on the rebel base.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/869753-3/P1011025.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=05fbd248c022bca1b99a6041aef1619d" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P1011025.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/869754-3/P1011026.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=05fbd248c022bca1b99a6041aef1619d" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P1011026.jpg" /></p> <p>The figure is unremarkable but well done. It’s not uncommon on mass-market figures to get some small defects. Usually you can look at the figure in the package before purchasing, but the way the backpack is set in the package you cannot tell if the paint is marred or not.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/844698-3/P2150347.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=591eb240c8c5ce200023ef438caa5856" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P2150347.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/844699-3/P2150348.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=591eb240c8c5ce200023ef438caa5856" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P2150348.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/844700-3/P2150349.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=591eb240c8c5ce200023ef438caa5856" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P2150349.jpg" /></p> <p>It’s possible to hold the gun with two hands, but the softness of the gun can make the gun look odd. I don’t know why they insist on making the weapons out of such soft material. It’s probably to avoid breakage, but still…</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/844701-3/P2150350.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=591eb240c8c5ce200023ef438caa5856" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P2150350.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/844702-3/P2150351.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=591eb240c8c5ce200023ef438caa5856" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P2150351.jpg" /></p> <p>The skirt is made out of a soft rubber as well, and while it moves a bit, it does restrict motion. First of all, Phasma's cape is just god awful. It is completely molded around her left shoulder. What that means, is that if the left arm is lifted, or moved forward or backward more than a little bit, the cape sits unnaturally. Not only that, but the cape is long enough that is hinders kneeling poses. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/845347-3/GUL_4273.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="424" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4273" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/845348-3/GUL_4275.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="424" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4275" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/845388-3/asdf.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="640" height="444" class="giThumbnail" alt="asdf" /></p> <p>Of course, the cape can always be removed, but Phasma just looks strange without it in my opinion.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/845364-3/GUL_4292.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="412" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4292" /></p> <p>Second of all, I'm not a fan of the hand that grips the gun. The fingers seem too short for the handle. As you can see, the fingers don't even reach the trigger.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/845377-3/GUL_4294.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4294" /></p> <p>Another small complaint is that the guns stock doesn't come off or collapse, which can make it hard to pose in some circumstances.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/845351-3/GUL_4278.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="640" height="458" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4278" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/845349-3/GUL_4276.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="417" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4276" /></p> <p>Initially, the cape really put me off to the figure. I was all set to give this a terrible review, but after handling the figure for awhile, the cape doesn't bother me as much as it initially did. The figure shares everything that made the FO trooper great, articulation, balance, ect which goes a long way towards redeeming the figure. All said and done, I really do like this version of Phasma, she looks great posed with other Figuarts, and does a great job of capturing the look of the character. That said, I can't guarantee that she won't get replaced by the MAFEX or model kit when they come out. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/845389-3/GUL_4297.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="640" height="446" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4297" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/845355-3/GUL_4282.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="424" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4282" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/845356-3/GUL_4283.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="640" height="435" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4283" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/845354-3/GUL_4281.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=4202e99360d20c8640b13576f562a245" width="413" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_4281" /></p> <p> <br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item">1:12</div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. I hated Hasbro’s version so much it’s one of the few toys I’ve actually had to return. Thankfully, Bandai came to the rescue with their SH Figuarts First Order Stormtrooper, the best SHF released to date. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839859-3/FO-01.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-01"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839860-3/FO-02.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-02"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839865-3/FO-07.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-07"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839866-3/FO-08.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-08"/></p> <p>The First Order Stormtrooper has the same gorgeous packaging as the other Star Wars SHFs though using the compact box found in most of the recent Kamen Rider releases. &nbsp; There are only three pairs of hands, which is a bit sparse considering the usual amount Figuarts tend to receive, but the trigger finger hand serves double duty as a pointing finger as well. The F-11D Blaster Rifle is highly detailed with clean paint applications and has an articulated foregrip. I don’t think the actual Blaster Rifle is supposed to have an articulated foregrip, especially given the awkward position it is in but it was a nice touch. I actually didn’t even realize it was articulated for quite a while.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839867-3/FO-09.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-09"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839862-3/FO-04.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-04"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839863-3/FO-05.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-05"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839864-3/FO-06.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="428" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-06"/></p> <p>The sculpting is incredible and fairly accurate to the actual armor, though the biggest issue I would have is how small the shoulder pads are. This can make it a little weird if you plan on having a mixed army of Stormtroopers, since figure size discrepancy isn’t much of an issue compared to the size of actual armor sizes. Unlike Kylo Ren, the Stormtrooper uses the new style Figuarts body.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839868-3/FO-10.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-10"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839869-3/FO-11.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-11"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839870-3/FO-12.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-12"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839871-3/FO-13.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-13"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839872-3/FO-14.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-14"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839873-3/FO-15.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-15"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839874-3/FO-16.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-16"/></p> <p>Articulation is where the First Order Stormtrooper excels, and makes this the best Figuarts to date. The range of motion in the shoulders is very good, allowing the figure to hold the rifle with both hands realistically, though I do wish it had pop out shoulder joints for a bit of extra reach. What makes this figure stand above all others is the waist articulation, which features more range than any other Figuarts I have ever owned. The range of motion is incredible and I’ve been able to put it in poses that you just can’t get with the vast majority of other 1/12 figures. Leg articulation is what you expect with the new style bodies and allows the figure to get into realistic kneeling poses. The only other issues I have with articulation are the ankles, which are a bit limited due to the leg armor design rather than the joints itself. One really brilliant thing Bandai did was articulate the utility belt so that the pouches would not interfere with the leg articulation, something that has been in issue with many other figures.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839932-3/SHF+First+Order+Stormtrooper.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="SHF First Order Stormtrooper"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839875-3/FO-17.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-17"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839876-3/FO-18.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-18"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839877-3/FO-19.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-19"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839878-3/FO-20.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-20"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839923-3/FO-21.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-21"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839924-3/FO-22.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-22"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839927-3/FO-25.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-25"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839930-3/FO-28.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-28"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839933-3/Brothers+in+Arms.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="Brothers in Arms"/></p> <p>I really can’t praise the SHF First Order Stormtrooper enough. I bought figures of other characters I like much more (I own 6 Nendoroid Makos), but objectively speaking, the Stormtrooper blew me away. I haven’t been enjoyed a toy so much since the SOC GaoGaiGar was released and will actively be trying to buy every Stormtrooper I can find. I currently own 2, with another on the way, and one of my goals on an upcoming trip to Japan is to buy every single one I see. I do wish the size of the shoulder pads were a larger, and there are little places where the articulation could have been improved, but as it stands, I still think there is no better Figuart than the First Order Stormtrooper. This is a figure that everyone should own and will be the benchmark in articulation until maybe the SHF Bruce Lee, but that also uses the old style leg joints that I hate. It takes a lot to make me buy multiples of something as expensive as a Figuarts troop builder, but the price is well worth it. This figure is so good you need to throw your Black Series one in the trash.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839931-3/FO-29.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-29"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839928-3/FO-26.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-26"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/839929-3/FO-27.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=54e578b1c6eb119a28eddec1cce9b578" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="FO-27"/></p> <p><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. The cape and hood are easily removeable. The outer skirt can be removed, but it obviously wasn't designed to be as it leaves a gap between the lower torso and belt. The lower skirt is really my only complaint with the figure. While it's made out of soft plastic, is doesn't look natural at all if the legs are posed crouched. It drags the ground and just kind of sticks straight out in all directions.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/836488-3/GUL_3333_1_.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=a672f73c46e6ab8dc330d7692c6a3317" width="468" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_3333[1]" /></p> <p>Aside from the swing and miss with the skirt, the figure is very well done, and looks great in a variety of poses from the movie. If you're collecting the Figuarts Star Wars line, Kylo Ren is a excellent addition. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/836479-3/GUL_3267.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=a672f73c46e6ab8dc330d7692c6a3317" width="437" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_3267" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/836475-3/GUL_3258.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=a672f73c46e6ab8dc330d7692c6a3317" width="640" height="424" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_3258" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/836406-3/GUL_3228.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=a672f73c46e6ab8dc330d7692c6a3317" width="640" height="424" class="giThumbnail" alt="GUL_3228" /><br /> <br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item">1/12</div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. The Shock Trooper comes with the classic E-11 Blaster Rifle and DLT-20A Blaster Rifle. The DLT-20A still seems as a weird choice for Stormtrooper weaponry when it was only ever seen with IG-88. I do feel like it was also shown being used by Stormtroopers in Star Wars Rebels but I couldn’t find any screenshots and may just be misremembering things. The DLT-19 would still have been preferable as a more accurate Stormtrooper weapon.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/836318-3/shock-04.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=5141c6d07a01e66e5e691f3cc2bac073" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="shock-04"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/836319-3/shock-05.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=5141c6d07a01e66e5e691f3cc2bac073" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="shock-05"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/836320-3/shock-06.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=5141c6d07a01e66e5e691f3cc2bac073" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="shock-06"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/836321-3/shock-07.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=5141c6d07a01e66e5e691f3cc2bac073" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="shock-07"/></p> <p>There isn’t much to say about the figure that hasn’t been said before. I would have preferred a Phase 2 Clone Trooper in the proper markings, but the Imperial Shock Trooper is a decent alternative. Wal-Mart seems to have not known when they were supposed to release the figure, with it being rather rare when Battlefront was launched. It only seems like in the past few weeks that these figures have started showing up, though I have yet to see one in stores and it was only thanks the Ender’s generosity that I was able to get one. The hype for TFA means the older figures probably won’t get as much hype but I think he’s a great toy and highly recommend him.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/836330-3/shock-16.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=5141c6d07a01e66e5e691f3cc2bac073" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="shock-16"/></p> <p><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item">1/12</div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. Her visage dominated marketing material, and her toy releases had been extremely sought after.</p> <p>Played by Game of Thrones star Gwendolyn Christie, Phasma had all the makings of a legendary character on par with Boba Fett. </p> <p>Then the movie came out.</p> <p>Captain Phasma had maybe four scenes in the movie, and I don't think she shot her weapon once. She didn't fight. She just sort of stood there and barked orders and looked cool. At the end of the movie, she caved in too quickly and her decisions ultimately led to the victory of the Resistance. So much for that.</p> <p>Now that's not to say she won't be cooler in the additional installments, but my excitement for this character greatly died down after seeing the movie.</p> <p>As for the toy...</p> <p>This is the simple 5 points of articulation figure released with "Mission Gear" that does not appear in the film. The silver plastic used to mold the figure has a slight metallic tint, but it also has some swirls in it where the color didn't quite settle. What they mean by this is not the physical feeling, but rather what emotions and memories the toy evokes when handling it. As collectors, we are heavily tied into nostalgia, and this nostalgia often makes all the difference in our purchasing decisions.</p> <p>With Rey's Speeder, it was not nostalgia, but hype, that led me to purchase it. It was another one of my Force Friday purchases, and I thought I should pick up at least one vehicle. People say these new toys have the "feel" of the vintage kenner toys, but is that true?</p> <p>Lets talk a bit about the enigmatic Rey first. She's obviously one of the main characters in the new Star Wars film, but we know little about her. She scavenges the ruins on the planet Jakku, and she gets around on this speeder, who's nomenclature is unknown. Some call it the flying popsicle. Either way she is key to the story, and as such, deserves some attention.</p> <p>The box is nice, with some wonderful painted art, and a die-cut window showcasing the included figure.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824824-3/P9120585.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120585.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/824825-3/P9120586.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120586.jpg" /></p> <p>First, let's look at the Rey figure. This figure is exclusive to this set. Here we see Rey bundled up and ready to face the elements on Jakku. Her goggles are reminiscent of a Stormtrooper, don't you think?</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824838-3/P9120608.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120608.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/824839-3/P9120609.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120609.jpg" /></p> <p>The figure only has four points of articulation, and she comes with a long staff weapon that can be slung over her shoulder.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824840-3/P9120610.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120610.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/824841-3/P9120611.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120611.jpg" /></p> <p>She's a great little figure that is nicely detailed and painted. Rey is designed in such a way that she can sit on the speeder without the need for bending knees. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824826-3/P9120596.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120596.jpg" /></p> <p>The speeder is basically a giant engine with a seat. There's a large air intake on the front, and a net on the side to store items that she scavenges. Despite being an odd shape, the Speeder can stand upright due to clever positioning of the fins.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824827-3/P9120597.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120597.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/824828-3/P9120598.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120598.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/824829-3/P9120599.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120599.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/824830-3/P9120600.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120600.jpg" /></p> <p>The rear fins are movable, perhaps a kind of air brake.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824831-3/P9120601.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120601.jpg" /><img src="/gallery2/d/824832-3/P9120602.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="P9120602.jpg" /></p> <p>A missile firing feature is activated when you push a button on the side. Yes, but not the vintage you are thinking of. This toy evokes memories and notes from the POTF2 line, Kenner's re-launch, rather from the original toy line in 1978. Say what you want about the figures from POTF2, but the vehicles were stellar. While still retaining the aesthetic of the original vehicles, the POTF2 line added more detail and often more play value than their vintage counterparts.</p> <p>Yes, 1996 is just about vintage. The red pauldron signifies officer status, which I had always assumed was meant for Sandtroopers only. The kama is made from soft plastic but is still way too stiff to allow the figure to kneel and restricts leg articulation significantly. It’s interesting that they did not go with a cloth kama considering the use of cloth pieces in previous figures.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/829186-3/snow-08.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="snow-08"/></p> <p>The backpack is removable and a little loose on my figure. It also tends to pop off when the waist is turned. The leg cuffs prevent the feet from barely moving while the kama prevents the legs from really doing much. The elbows can bend less than 90 degrees but it can at least hold the blaster with both hands.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/829190-3/snow-12.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="snow-12"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/829192-3/snow-14.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="snow-14"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/829193-3/snow-15.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="426" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="snow-15"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/829194-3/snow-16.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="snow-16"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/829191-3/snow-13.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="snow-13"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/829187-3/snow-09.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="snow-09"/></p> <p>I like the First Order Snowtrooper Officer mainly due to the design though I’m not sure if it’s actually a good figure. Articulation is pretty poor, even compared to Captain Phasma but it’s also the currently the only way to get a First Order Snowtrooper in the 6in line. As a TRU exclusive, it’s a bit of a pain to find in stores it is currently in stock online. There has been no word on whether a regular First Order Snowtrooper will be released yet, so it’s also the only way to army build Snowtroopers as well. For those that are army building Stormtroopers however, the Snowtrooper Officer is a useful figure in acquiring pauldrons for anyone wanting regular Snowtroopers and Stormtrooper Officers. &nbsp; It’s definitely one of the better looking figures in the TFA Black Series lineup but I don't think it really lives up to what the series was meant to represent.&nbsp;</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/829196-3/snow-18.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="snow-18"/></p> <p><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item">1/12</div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. Better known as Brienne of House Tarth, she is the entrusted with the Valyrian steel sword Oathkeeper on her mission to rescue Sansa Stark.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828870-3/phasma-01.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-01"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828871-3/phasma-02.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-02"/></p> <p>Captain Phasma comes packaged in the same style box as all the other TFA Black Series figures. The cape itself is soft rubber and looks awesome, though it does restrict the figure from being able to crouch and kneel. I am glad they went with a soft rubber cape instead of the hard plastic used on the First Order Snowtroopers. While the actual Captain Phasma has an awesome chrome armor, the figure is painted silver. It’s a pretty good paint job, though with typical Hasbro QC issues where the paint has run over or shows little scratches. It still looks good enough and I am thankful Hasbro did not attempt a chrome finish on the figure. With Hasbro’s typical paint quality, the chrome would most likely look terrible.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828877-3/phasma-08.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-08"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828878-3/phasma-09.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-09"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828876-3/phasma-07.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-07"/></p> <p>It seems like at some point between the last batch of Black Series figures and the current TFA line, Hasbro gutted the articulation out of the figures. While the previous figures were fairly poseable and could hold weapons with both arms up pretty convincingly, the new figures seem to longer have the same range of motion. Phasma’s articulation is at least better than the First Order Stormtrooper and can sort of hold the blaster in both hands. The elbows have less than 90 degree range and the legs can raise a decent amount, but the cape prevents the figure from posing crouched.</p> <p>Like the First Order Stormtrooper, Phasma’s rifle can attach to the leg. Unlike the Stormtrooper however, her blaster has a modern telescoping stock that is the same as the Snowtrooper’s. &nbsp;</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828879-3/phasma-10.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-10"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828880-3/phasma-11.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-11"/></p> <p>Like the movie counterpart, Phasma is gigantic and towers over other figures. She stands a head higher than both the Tie Pilot and Snowtrooper. The height difference really does make for an imposing character.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828881-3/phasma-12.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-12"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828882-3/phasma-13.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-13"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828883-3/phasma-14.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-14"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828884-3/phasma-15.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-15"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828885-3/phasma-16.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-16"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828886-3/phasma-17.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-17"/></p> <p>I tend to be pretty harsh and critical of my figures but I do enjoy Phasma a good deal. Personally, I think she’s the only figure worth purchasing in the second wave and has superior articulation compared to the regular First Order Stormtrooper. Articulation is pretty lackluster especially considering how well articulated the Marvel Legends figures are at the same price point but the key to enjoying these figures is to be complacent for what they are. It’s the best Phasma figure you can buy until the Figuarts version is released and worth the cost just to have a cool looking figure no one knows absolutely anything about. Unfortunately Phasma is also probably the most commonly scalped TFA figure and finding her may quite difficult. I’ve heard she has popped up at Gamestops of all places but I was fortunate enough for Ender10000 to grab me one from his local Walmart.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828887-3/phasma-18.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-18"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/828888-3/phasma-19.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=89e10439189bb9afa748b9c582e246c6" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="phasma-19"/><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item">1/12</div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. We don't know much about BB-8 at this point; it looks like he is being positioned as this generations R2-D2.</p> <p>He's a ball basically, with a head that stays on top. Not a big deal you say? Well how about the fact that it is not a CGI effect, but a real physical prop that actually works. And how about the fact that they made a toy using the exact same technology as the prop in the film? That's pretty amazing if you ask me. We live in wonderful times.</p> <p>The company behind this is called Sphero, who earlier had released just a ball that drove around. That in itself was fun, but most people balked at the price. Now, brand it Star Wars, add in the magnetic head gimmick, and now it's one of the hottest toys for Christmas this year.</p> <p>I got one a week after Force Friday, and I love the little guy, and I think you will love him too.</p> <p><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2TdAVg9SmHE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p> <p>BB-8 comes in a lovely, high end box that removing the cover is like unlocking a vacuum seal. The USB cable can attach to a computer or preferably a USB charging block that plugs into an outlet.</p> <p>While you are doing that, install the app from the app store. Make sure you have bluetooth enabled on your device.</p> <p>Press the button on the base to wake up BB-8, start the app, and place your device near the robot. The app will let you know when you are connected.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/826712-3/PA040213.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=8eed1d45ff7b5255bafe44eefa07d2d0" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="PA040213.jpg" /></p> <h2>Controls</h2> <p>BB-8 has three basic modes on the app. There's drive, where you are in control, a free roaming mode, and a mode where you can record and project a message. FYI, there's no camera on BB-8, it's all done in the app with augmented reality. This mode is pretty useless actually.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/826715-3/PA040218.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=8eed1d45ff7b5255bafe44eefa07d2d0" width="480" height="638" class="giThumbnail" alt="PA040218.jpg" /></p> <p>To drive BB-8, you first have to orient it so forward means forward. On the control screen there are two basic controls. The left side controls the direction with a joystick like touchpad. On the right, you drag to orient a blue light inside BB-8. I found that pointing the light at me would orient the robot so the controls made sense. Also in this mode were some pre-set controls like the ability to do a figure eight pattern or a square pattern, as well as some shortcuts to reactions.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/826711-3/PA040212.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=8eed1d45ff7b5255bafe44eefa07d2d0" width="479" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="PA040212.jpg" /></p> <p>For the free roaming mode, you just press start and BB-8 goes. The screen shows a multitude of data, including range, distance traveled, an actual map of the travel path, and a log of things BB-8 encounters on its journey. It's range is rather far, so its travels will likely take it out of your sight.</p> <h2>Fun</h2> <p>BB-8 is super fun. I had a lot of fun driving him around, and the reactions people had when they saw him were amazing. It looks like I have just scratched the surface of what you can do with this droid, as there are many options you can customize as well.</p> <h2>What's not to like?</h2> <p>Well, it's not cheap. For $150, they could have included a USB power block. I also thought there would be more to do in-app but I think they are holding back until the movie comes out. Popular rumor is that he is a Force Sensitive who collects Sith artifacts while working for the First Order.</p> <p>Here's my thought: we're all being trolled. JJ Abrahms has a history of secrecy and misdirection in regards to his projects, and none are more secret than this new Star Wars movie. I think we actually have not seen the big villain in the movie yet, and these are very carefully calculated leaks in order to shape our perception of the film. The dollar doesn’t get you as much as it used to and I have more financial responsibilities now, but my excitement for the new movie meant I still had to buy a Lego set for Force Friday.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824343-3/rey-01.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-01"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824344-3/rey-02.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-02"/></p> <p>Disney has been pretty tightlipped about the movie, so there isn’t much info about Rey’s speeder. In fact, we don’t even know her last name. All I know is that Rey rides this not-Fudgesicle speeder bike on the desert planet Jakku. Coming in at 193 pieces, Rey’s Speeder is the cheapest set in the first wave of <em>The Force Awakens</em> Lego sets. I’m not sure when they started using these weirdly long rectangular boxes, but I think it might have been with Ezra’s Speeder Bike earlier this year.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824345-3/rey-03.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-03"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824346-3/rey-04.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-04"/></p> <p>Inside are instructions, a sticker sheet and two numbered bags.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824349-3/rey-07.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-07"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824350-3/rey-08.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-08"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824351-3/rey-09.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-09"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824352-3/rey-10.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-10"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824353-3/rey-11.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="427" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-11"/></p> <p>Two figures are included in the set, Rey and Unkar’s thug. Often times I won’t apply the stickers, but I think add enough to the set to actually apply them, annoying as they may be. Lego has been known to skip out on control panels occasionally, so it’s nice to see the Speeder Bike actually have some. The staff and shoulder bag attach to the Speeder similar to production photos but instead of a net holding scavenged items, a pair of binoculars, saw and blaster are attached to the side instead.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824359-3/rey-17.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="426" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-17"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824360-3/rey-18.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-18"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824361-3/rey-19.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-19"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824362-3/rey-20.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-20"/></p> <p>As a children’s toy, the Rey’s Speeder has two gimmicks. There are two of the newer stud shooters on either side of the Speeder. They don’t look as ugly as flick fire missiles and actually fire studs a fair distance, but you also can’t just simply remove them as you could with the old ones. Turning the bottom thruster also pops the side hatches open to access a storage container. It’s not big enough to hold the alternate hair piece or scarf, but you could stuff some extra stud ‘lasers’ inside.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824379-3/rey-22.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-22"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824380-3/rey-23.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="426" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-23"/></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/824381-3/rey-24.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=7bc81c24c86de29b5e3a877f7e05b617" width="640" height="427" class="giThumbnail" alt="rey-24"/></p> <p>Overall, Rey’s Speeder is a fun little set that looks pretty accurate. It is a little small, but is still close to the magical 10 cents/piece ratio. Lego has never been cheap, but there will always be complaints of how sets seem more expensive than they used to be. The original 1999 Snowspeeder was only 20 dollars as well, but the build was also much simpler. This isn’t always the case, but for the most part, modern sets have higher piece counts and more complex builds; resulting in them being perceived to be more expensive. My only real issue is with the price distribution of the first wave of TFA sets. With only a single 20 dollar set and the next lowest being 40, there aren’t a lot of cheaper sets for children to get into. It creates a bit of a price barrier for the first wave, when the three most iconic ships are 70, 80 and 150 dollars. I would have liked it if they at least included a Stormtrooper battle pack or another 20 dollar set in the first wave, but none of that takes away from Rey’s Speeder itself. I’m still excited for the movie, and will probably end up picking most of the Lego sets as well.</p> <p><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char.
