The strongest and most deadly of the Apostles, she fights to destroy the Heartcatch Precures and make the word a desert for the mighty Dune. She also harbors a special hatred for Cure Moonlight…

With this, Megahouse gives us the Excellent Model Dark Precure statuette from the Toei Magical Girl show entitled Heartcatch: Precure! As with their other such releases, Megahouse has done an immaculate job capturing the character into a statuette.

Let’s review:

Packaging:
Dark Precure comes in a huge box with a miasma of black and purple diamonds upon it. A very stunning display, indeed, especially with Dark Precure’s hateful stare emanating from its depths.

The back is swathed with characters (that most likely say something cool or important) and pictures of the figure inside showing off how good it looks.

A very pretty, solid, and BIG box.

Aesthetics:
I could give you a list of adjectives that would describe this figure, but we would be here all day. I can safely say, however, that this statuette in the realm of being deistic; I’ve seen some statues in my life, but this is everything. This statuette not only perfectly emulates the character design from the show, but also emulates Umakoshi’s art style. All the angles and lankiness are present, and it’s beautiful.

The detail on Dark Precure is to an obsessive degree. Her dress and bow are sculpted as to be blowing in the wind, and her overall sculpt moves in that direction giving her a type of flow; this is nice to see as it makes the figure feel almost “themed,” for lack of a better word.

Being more simplistic in her design, Dark Precure doesn’t have as many details concerning her suit, but what is there is well done. Her shoulder puffs are pressed and mushed in places to create the illusion of fabric; her chest fringe is tousled; and her bow looks as is if were actually tied and then melted into place.

Going to the extreme, Dark Precure sports bodily sculpted detail as well. Her collar bones, shoulder blades, elbows, and pseudo-muscle structures are present and work well into making this statuette feel alive. Nothing has been left out here; every expense was given to this figure.

One thing that I greatly appreciate about this figure is what goes on underneath her dress (I promise it’s nothing pervy or dirty). Dark Precure’s sculpt continues well up into her dress and is given the same amount of detail and love (man, that sounds wrong). It would have been too easy to just stop the sculpt where you wouldn’t see anything, but this figure goes until it physically cannot continue. This just speaks volumes about the amount of heart that went into this figure. To put this into perspective, I think she has a belly-button.
I mean, holy crap.

Another thing that I appreciate about this aspect is that it’s also kept conservative and clean. Dark Precure sports a plain blakc pair of bikini-cut panties that are there to simply cover her private parts; they do not accentuate any of those parts or show anything off.
Great job, Megahouse.

It feels a little off-color to post a picture of it, but alas…

The paint apps upon this statuette are outstanding as well. Everything is expertly applied and clean. The red of her suit is deep and almost blood-like. Her suit is a mixture of black, insanely dark purple, and purple. The purple helps make the suit feel magical and ethereal, that there is some mystical aura about it.

Articulation:
She’s a statue; there isn’t any.
Dark Precure stands eight inches tall to the top of her head and reaches almost ten inches with the inclusion of her wing. She is also ten inches wide.

She is made from solid PVC and is quite hefty because of it. She is a solid build with only slight flexibility in her arms—be careful when adding the Dark Tact to her hand.

She scales well with the other figures from the line as well.

Accessories:
Dark Precure comes with four things:
- Her stand
- Dark Tact
- Wing
- Extra face

Her stand resembles the fractured remains of Cure Moonlight’s heart seed. I love that they did it this way, as it is an integral part of her character... and just plain awesome.

Her Dark Tact is given the same amount of detail.

Her wing is made from a harder plastic that is dark purple and translucent; it’s eerie when the light shines through it. Barbs are present and are actually spiky.

Her other face is one with both eyes open. In the show, she keeps her right eye closed to keep its power at bay. This alternate face—as well as the other—perfectly encapsulates the hatred expressed by this character; the first time I saw it, I had chills. It’s placid, yes, but you can just feel the seething hatred underneath.

You change the faces out by removing the hair that is held in place via pegs and slots.

Gimmicks:
None, unless you count being extremely photogenic a gimmick.

Closing Remarks:
Dark Precure is an excellent character, one that is deep beyond your very imagination. This statuette perfectly captures and emulates her character and character design; she’s slick, angular, and brimming with anger. With the extravagant attention to detail and mind-blowing sculpt, I highly suggest this figure if you like the show, her character, or simply the figure itself… it you can afford it, at least. Being of the Limited series, Dark Precure is very hard to find and, when you do find her, quite expensive; however, she is absolutely worth it.

Scale

1/8

Char. Perhaps the most centered and strongest Cure, Cure Sunshine fights to protect the ones she loves and bring them into a new and shining light of friendship.

With this, Megahouse gives us the Excellent Model Cure Sunshine statuette from the Toei Magical Girl show entitled HeartCatch: Precure! Megahouse—as always—has done a wonderful job bringing this character into new dimensions with astounding results.

Let’s review:

Packaging:
Sunshine’s box is open faced to show off herself and her fairy—Potpourri—inside. The box is wonderfully flowery and warm.

The back continues this warmth with awesome shots of Sunshine and a whole bunch of words I can’t read.

Aesthetics:
In the interest of time and space, I won’t be quoting a thesaurus on “beautiful” here, so let me say this: Cure Sunshine is beautiful.
I mean, downright gorgeous.
Cure Sunshine very well emulates her character model and also brings to the table a proper 3D representation of Umakoshi’s art style; she’s perfectly slight and wonderfully detailed.

The detail on Sunshine is intense. We have fabric emulation with her arm puffs, top, and skirt as they bunch up and move with her body sculpt. Her bows look as if they have actually been tied and they are also “responding” to gravity with their tassels. Little divots and creases are present in her bows as well as the petals of her flower themed skirt. She also has knuckles, fingernails, and creases on her palms.

Bevels and rises are included in her hair. These give a strong sense of depth and inclusion of her 2D animation model elements; it gives a stark contrast to the realism of a 3D sculpt and makes her feel more like her anime self solely presented in a new light. What was achieved with pen strokes is now a physical detail.

Nothing is flat on this statue. Bevels, layers, and thickness help promote the idea that Cure Sunshine is a wearing this magical outfit. Not everything is connected to her main sculpt, thus giving her clothes and accessories a free flowing nature about her. Her body is also curved and shaped to imitate muscle structures of her body: she has a spine indention, shoulder blades, a belly button, and biceps and triceps!

Her colors are warm and decadent. Nothing is truly or simply white on this statue; everything is a slight hinge towards yellow. This gives Sunshine a feeling of wholeness about her and makes her have a warm aura about herself. Some things are matte and others are shiny. Everything is expertly applied and a wonder to behold.

An interesting thing about Sunshine’s hair is that, unlike any of the other statues’, hers has 70% opacity throughout, not going from 100% to near 30% from top to bottom. This allows her hair to catch sunlight and glow as a result.
A wonderful little design choice.

Articulation:
Normally, statues do not have articulation.
Cure Sunshine has a head swivel.
I don’t know why, but it’s there.

Cure Sunshine stands at 7.5 inches tall to the top of her head and 7 ? inches with her hair included.

Being made from PVC, Sunshine is somewhat flexible in her extremities. She also has a good solid heft about her.

Accessories:
Cure Sunshine comes with the following:
- Her Stand
- Potpourri
- Potpourri’s stand
- Two faces
- The Shiny Tambourine

Her stand resembles her Heart Seed and is a nice translucent orange.
Her faces are winking and placid. They are exchanged by removing her bangs and changing them out. Both faces are cute and can be used to portray each side of her personality, a nice small touch.

The Shiny Tambourine is Sunshine’s attack weapon. Its detail and paint are great front and back and it can be slid onto her left hand for her to hold.

It does not spin, but… c’mon.

Lastly, Sunshine’s companion Fairy Potpourri joins the fray. The same level of attention has been given to him as was to Sunshine; he’s clean, precise, and wonderful.

Gimmicks:
Besides being utterly astounding and gorgeous… none.

Closing remarks:
Cure Sunshine is a dichotomous and lovely character in the HeartCatch universe. This statue encapsulates that warmth and joy that her character produces with a wonderful sculpt and paint. This figure is simply amazing with no amount of detail left out; this was a labor of love, and it shows. If you’re a fan of HeartCatch, Cure Sunshine, or just outstanding statues, then this is for you.

Scale

1/8

Char. Precure is the tenth show in Izumi Todo's Pretty Cure series and also commemorates the series’ tenth anniversary. Each week we follow the adventures of Mana and her friends as they defend the world from the evil Trumps!

With this, Bandai gives us the Dokidoki Precure trading figures from, of course, Dokidoki! Precure. Part of their candy toy line, these toys are fun little figures of your favorite ‘Cures.

Let’s review:

Packaging:
Each Precure comes in her own box specifically printed for each one. Show art and figure art are present and make quite a nice looking box.

Aesthetics:
These figures all look pretty great. Each one’s colors are dull and matte with very little gloss or shine; this is great as the ‘Cures in Dokidoki are of that same vein, which I find greatly pleasing. By that fact alone, however, the paint applications are quite flat and not ornate; there is no shading or different hues on the figures. There is also plenty of overspray and lumpy paint. Of course, these figures are about 350 yen a piece, so no gripes here.

All details are present from their onscreen counter-parts and are well sculpted. There are raised badges and ridges on their suits and plenty of fringing details such as hair and bows. Their sculpts feel a little weak in the depth department and there are production bits on them, but, alas, these figures are small and cheap. Taking that into consideration, they do well.

Cure Sword.

Cure Diamond

Cure Heart

Cure Rosetta

Articulation:
Nope, none here.

Each girl stands at exactly 3 ? inches.

Accessories:
Each girl comes with two things:
- A personalized stand
- SODA CANDY

Each stand is personalized for each Precure. Each one has its respective Cure’s name printed on it and is tailored to each one’s foot placement. Each Cure fits snugly on her foot pegs and is secured upright with an additional arm.

The soda candy is also delicious.
I mean, that’s the real reason why we get these toys, am I right?

Gimmicks:
The main gimmick of these toys is that they are to be traded amongst your friends. Not too much of an incentive for this seeing as how cheap they are, but alas.

Closing Remarks:
These little figures are perfectly cute and awesome. Though they suffer from somewhat weak sculpt and sloppy paint, these figures, being as small and as cheap as they are, more than get away it and make wonderfully charming display. If you want a cheap and adorable physical representation of this year’s Precure troupe, then pick these little guys up, as you won’t be disappointed.

Scale

Char. Get yours there!

When the S.H. Figuarts for the original two Precures came out a lot of people seemed to be pretty eager and ready to pick up Cure Black, and who could blame them? The cute spunky design is able to fit in on shelves pretty well despite being a rather girly figure. Unfortunately it seems that her partner in justice Cure White has since been left in the shadows in comparison. Fans seem much more eager to pick up the spunky athletic Cure Black than they are the quiet and reserved Cure White. Is Cure White as good as Cure Black, or does she warrant the lack of attention? Let's find out.

Cure White comes in a package that is very similar to Cure Black’s box. The only major differences are the color choices, which go with a White’s personal color scheme of white and blue.

A neat thing to note is the fact that the side flaps on the box have some silhouette pictures of Cure White, and if you line it up with the Cure Black box, you get to iconic poses between the two. It’s a pretty neat tiny feature that a lot of people may not have noticed.

Out of the package Cure White is a lot more… slender than Cure Black when you first get her in hands. Waists down her joints are pretty much the same as Black’s, but her arms are entirely different. Her shoulder pads are sculpted much smaller and cup at her tiny shoulders a lot more tightly than Black’s shoulder pads. The pegs on Cure White’s wrists are TINY! It really is a pain to swap hands on this thing some times.

In an interesting move, Cure White has some movable hair. Her hair is separated into three sections: two side splits of hair, and a giant wad of hair right in the back. They are all ball jointed and help her emote slightly more in certain poses.

Cure White comes with a similar set of hands to Black: fists, splayed hands, and a pointing hand. However, Cure White’s hands are much less cartoony and instead more elegant and refined. It works for her character though.

Of course, Cure White also comes with several faces. In addition to her normal neutral face, she has a smiling face and a yelling face. It’s a shame that she doesn’t have an extremely cartoony face like Cure Black does, but it really isn’t in her character to act like that so I can’t get too annoyed about a tiny detail like that.

One of the main draws to getting Cure White is that you can use the special hands that Cure Black came with so that the two of them can hold their hands together so they can do their special attack: Marble Screw. It took a bit of fiddling to get them positioned just right, but the end result is pretty satisfying and awesome for sure.

Although personally I prefer to have them pointing and yelling at the forces of evil to return from whence they came.

So is Cure White worth it? I think so. In many ways Cure Black is the more solid figure between the pair. However, when the two are right next to each other it’s just such a nice display. These two really are a pair and need to be together if you ask me. After all, the show is called “The two of us are Precure".

Cure White was provided by HobbyLink Japan. Arguably -- from the views of the characters themselves -- she is the weakest Precure, though this is true only in physical might; her heart and love for others outshines any other, and she will fight for those she loves.

With this, Megahouse gives us the Excellent Model Cure Blossom statuette from the Toei Magical Girl show entitled HeartCatch: Precure! Megahouse really encapsulated a lot of the character into this statuette; it's pretty(cure) spectacular.

Let's review:

Packaging:
The box has an open face to show off Blossom and Chypre -- her Fairy companion -- held inside.

On the side another window is present with more pictures splashed upon it.

And the back includes all your warnings and glorified pictures of Blossom. The packaging is nice, as it does its job: holding the figure. It's not as pink as I would have assumed it would be, but that's not a negative thing.

Aesthetics:
Cure Blossom's statuette is stunning; The figure just exudes the utmost quality. The sculpt is pretty close with the animation model with only a few errors from translating from 2D to 3D. It's smooth, soft, perfectly in proportion with the character, and loaded with detail. It's twisty and, quite frankly, just nice to look at.

The detail and artistic features in this figure, I must stress, are fantastic. The bows and her head and chest look as if they are actually tied. There are raised detail on her boots as well as the laces on the back of her suit; they are not just painted on. Her Heart Perfume is safely tucked away on her belt. She even has beveled and painted fingernails!

A cool artistic part of her figure to point out is her hair. Being a magical girl, she has lots of it. On this figure, it goes from opaque to translucent from top to bottom. A very cool choice, as it gives a lot to the overall figure.

The paint apps are expertly applied without mess, smudge, or overspray. The red -- a crimson, really -- is very deep and contrasts well with the soft pastel of the pink and pinkish-white of the rest of her suit. The paint in blended well with an almost "glow" added to the figure; nothing is just one color, and it really makes her look, well... magical.

Articulation:
She's a statue.
There is none.

Cure Blossom stands 7.5 inches tall from the bottom of the base to tippy top of her hair, 6.5 without the stand.

Blossom is made from solid PVC and garners quite a nice heft from it; she's got a nice weight that makes her feel quality and well made.

Accessories:
Cure Blossom comes with three things:
- Her Stand
- Chypre (her companion Fairy)
- Chypre's stand

The stand is her Precure Seed, the Heart Seed she places into the Heart Perfume to transform from Tsubomi -- her normal life alter-ego -- to Cure Blossom.

Chypre is two inches tall and has been given the same amount of detail and paint as Blossom herself. She is solid PVC and has a great sculpt with minute and bold detail and sports a nice weight for her size.

Her paint is soft and accurate and also includes a few "metallic" spots, such as the star on her head. There is what might look like green overspray on the white of Chypre's body, but that's intentional shading.

Gimmicks:
None... unless you count having awesome paint apps and looking perfectly adorable a gimmick.

Closing Remarks:
Cure Blossom is my favorite Precure from HeartCatch, and this statuette is the apotheosis of why: it's pretty; it's nicely designed; and it's pink!

But more to the point, this figure is great. With the fantastic sculpt and the extravagant attention to detail and paint, Blossom really stands out as a great statuette. If you like HeartCatch: Precure! or Cure Blossom, or are just entranced by this figure and design, then I highly suggest that you pick it up.

Cure Marine -- the second main Cure in HeartCatch -- also has a statuette from the same line. It says a lot of things in Japanese.

Aesthetics:

I really like Cure Blossom.
I really like the color Magenta.
This plush is an awesome culmination of those two things.

Blossom is rendered in the SD fashion, SD -- for all who don't know -- meaning Super Deformed. Her head is very large and overshadows her body by leaps and bounds. She's wearing a cute winking expression on her face, and all the features are tightly and well sewn on. Her ears have painted on earrings as well.

The detail is quite staggering for a plush. Her suit includes all the little and big items and details that normally adorn it. On her chest is a felt cutout of her bow, securely attached and fastened along with a small, iridescent charm in the middle. Attached to her wrist are her petal cuffs which are triple toned and have little painted flowers on them. Her petal skirt is a single-ply cutout with more shiny material used for a glowing effect. Her Heart Perfume is also tampo-ed on.

In her left hand is a fabric Flower Tact. Nice addition to the B version, as it is absent from the A.

Her boots are cut from a rubber material and sewn together around her feet. Dots and lines upon it make them more reminiscent of the show.

Her bow sits upon her head fastened at the center. It's also covered with more iridescent material. This is a nice added effect. It can crease rather easily, however, so keep that in mind.

Articulation:

Technically... it's infinite.

But, more realistically, Blossom has sewn joints at the shoulders and hips where everything is connected. Her hair is also just a long length of fabric, so that counts, right?

Cure Blossom stands at about 11 inches from the bottom of her boots the top of her head, more near a foot with the bow and hair "bump" included.

Accessories:

Nothing connects of disconnects here, but this version -- Type B -- of the plush comes with Blossom's Tact, a HeartCatch's main melee weapon... besides their fists and such.

Gimmicks:

Being absolutely snuggly.

Best. Gimmick. Ever.

Closing Remarks:

I am a very big fan of HeartCatch, and this plush is just another fantastic piece to my collection. Blossom takes very well to the plush treatment and is given a very quality plush rendition. The detail and fabrication is great, and -- most importantly -- she is perfectly cuddly. And for an average price of 1800 yen, how can you go wrong? If you like HeartCatch or just this design, I definitely recommend this plush.

Note: My review is of the Type B HeartCatch plush, meaning that the plush is winking and has a Flower Tact. The A type has both eyes open and no Flower Tact. See above the differences between a Type A Cure Marine and my Type B Blossom... and notice how great of a pair they make :3

Scale

Char. Though Coupe may not do much besides sit and stare, do not count him out of the fight when things get tough; when you tempt the beast, you receive its fangs.

With this, Bandai gives us the S.H. Figuarts ZERO Coupe-sama figure from the Toei Magical Girl show entitled Heartcatch Precure! Bandai did an excellent job with this figure, and it encapsulated the idea of Figuarts ZERO to the top degree.

Let’s review:

Packaging:
The box is plastered with silhouettes of Coupe and hearts all in a shade of green. A very nice looking box, to say the least.

And everywhere else are super cute and awesome poses of the Precure with Coupe showing off that Coupe sure can sit there real good when your other figures move about.

Aesthetics:
Coupe is quite the marvel to behold.

His sculpt is right on the money and is an excellent depiction of his animation model; it translates very well into the third dimension. There are tufts of hair coming out of the mold which are a very nice touch as it really makes him well pronounced.

The paint on Coupe is expertly applied and does not suffer from overspray, smudging, or any type of mess. His body is painted as to suggest shading and depth all over his body; there are deeper yellows and greens spread about that really make the whole figure pop!

Articulation:
Coupe is a Figuarts ZERO. If you’re slow today, that means there is no articulation, rather ZERO articulation.
See, you’re catching on.
Coupe-sama stands right at 8 and ? inches tall to the tippy-top of his horn.

Coupe is made of a soft vinyl and is somewhat squishy to the touch; he kinds feels like a dog toy but more resistive to squishing. He is also hollow.

Accessories:
Coupe-sama comes with three awesomely magical faces for the three main Cures: Blossom, Marine, and Sunshine. They are from the closing scene of Heartcatch when the girls are looking back upon their adventures and thinking of what to do next.

It’s kind of the best thing ever. They slip on just as the other faces do that come with each Cure, and they look great when worn.

Gimmicks:
Nope, no gimmicks here… unless standing real good and giving the most blank stare possible is a gimmick.

Closing Remarks:
Coupe-sama is a great looking toy with a fantastic sculpt and paint. This physical representation of Coupe’s character – or lack thereof; can you call sitting there and being a stone-cold boss character? – is wonderful to have and is a great addition to any Heartcatch collection. If there is any one thing that isn’t too great about this figure is the price. Coupe was a Tamashii Web Exclusive and was forty dollars before shipping and middle man fees. This makes him somewhat expensive to anyone less than a hardcore fan. But if you love Coupe-sama, then this toy is well worth the price…

… Diend certainly thinks so.

Scale

Char. Figuarts. Although the figures aren't bad, it's very difficult to hold them to the same standard as the Kamen Rider Figuarts which are much more solid on comparison. However there was a single Precure Figuart that was left that I was willing to believe in ever since I first saw gray prototypes at toy shows a few years ago. That Figuart was one of the original Precure: Cure Black. Will I get burned a third time on Precure Figuarts? Read on to find out.

Cure Black's sculpt is very cute and very screen accurate to the animation model. Her proportions are even similar, with the slender athletic body type and a slightly large head. It's a very simple costume, but its simplicity is definitely a strength in this figure's sculpt and paint details.

Cure Black is a little bit paler than she is in the show, but I think that's not too big of a problem.

Cure Black's articulation is very similar to a Figma. The smooth disk joints really make posing her a breeze. The skirt is also made of a much softer flexible material that makes it no problem to move her legs where ever.

Cure Black's huge boots also make it very easy to get her standing without the assistance of a stand; another major improvement over other Precure Figuarts. But just in case, she also includes a stand as well in case if you want to have her kicking and punching in the air.

Cure Black comes with several accessories, including two alternate faces. She has a much more angry face for when she's yelling or kicking Zakenai in the face.

Her other alternate face features Cure Black with a cheeky grin. Bandai's done a fantastic job of capturing Cure Black's personality in both of these alternate faces.

Cure Black comes with the standard type of alternate hands: fists, open hands, and two different special hands. The first hand is sculpted holding Cure White's hand so that they can do their special attack: Marble Screw. I do not have a Cure White so I can't show this off.

She also comes with an alternate left hand so she can point at her enemies and tell them to return from whence they came.

Cure Black is by far the best Precure Figuart I've had the pleasure to own. Her simple costume and lack of ridiculously sized hair make her incredibly poseable and stable as well. It feels like Bandai learned a lot of lessons from their previous Precure Figuarts and have really managed to make a fantastic rendition of the original spunky Precure. Absolutely get this figure, even if you haven't watched Precure and just think she looks cool. Cure Black is a definite winner.

I got my Cure Black at HobbyLink Japan. Get yours there!

Scale

Char. Precure. Is my eagerness for this magical girl slightly unhealthy? More than likely, but I’m not one to question myself so I don’t think much about it.

Let’s go back a few years, before I started getting into Precure. Even a few years ago I was browsing sites like AmiAmi and HobbyLink Japan, keeping an eye out for the various statues and figures that were coming out of Japan. I still remember coming across Megahouse’s Excellent Model series, and for the most part that was a line that featured a lot of Gundam characters, Queen’s Blade, and Macross as well. However a few of those figures didn’t quite seem to fit in with the rest of the figures that Megahouse was producing. Those figures were the first releases from Excellent Model’s HeartCatch! Precure line. Although at the time I did not know what those statues were and didn’t give them a second glance, I now am very fortunate that Megahouse has recently rereleased these figures in this past December. It is a very good time to be a HeartCatch! Precure fan in that regard.

Cure Marine comes in a standard figure box. Much like other figure boxes, the box is able to simultaneously look both nice and cheap at the same time. The sides have some nice close up shots of Cure Marine and her fairy partner Coffret.

Out of the box, Cure Marine is easy enough to get situated. Just a single foot peg and Cure Marine is all set to go. One thing to note is that her base is actually a blue Heart Seed. It’s a nice little touch and very much appreciated, especially to someone like me who is not a big fan of bland stands.

A concern that I had about these figures was that HeartCatch! Precure has a very distinctive aesthetic and style to it. With that in mind, it’s very difficult to capture that style in a three-dimensional form. I think that Megahouse’s sculpt is slightly off from the animation model, but is able to capture the same style in its own form. Cure Marine is very lithe and slender, but at the same time super dynamic and exciting as well. Her mid-stride pose, and her flowing hair does an excellent job of making it seem like this magical girl really did just pop out of the television screen into sculpted form.

The sculpt and detail on Cure Marine is pretty fantastic. This figure is particularly pleasant to the eye. Her stockings and dress are done in a nice glossy white, and it really shines under the light. The accents of her costume like her bow and hairpiece have a really nice metallic blue that adds a load of depth and detail to it.

Her skirt is done in a nice textured form, with a nice little flower petal motif as well.

Marine’s hair is also particularly interesting. Although at the top it is fully painted and detailed, it’s actually clear plastic that has been painted over, and the further down the hair you go, there is less paint applied to the hair sculpt. The end result is a very well done frosted look. Her hair manages to seem luminescent, wispy and, well, magical.

Another bit of detail that I found rather well done was Cure Marine’s midsection. I don’t know if this was intentional on the part of Megahouse, but Marine’s midsection is twisted and contorted in a pretty bizarre way. However I think that manages to capture a part of the style of HeartCatch! Precure, and is instead a positive to the statue instead of being a negative against poor sculpted detail.

No details are left missing on this figure at all. Not even the tiny little flowers that Marine has on her wrists and ankles!

Of course one of the most important parts of any figure is the face, and Cure Marine’s face is very well done. Her eyes are perfect and have just the right twinkle to them, and her smile is wide and excited. Her smile even has a slight curl to her lips at the corners as well, and it really helps bring her expression to life. Notice that even her earrings are sculpted and painted, despite the fact that they are barely visible in any direction.

Like other Cure Marine releases, this figure also comes with Erika’s fairy partner Coffret. There isn’t much to say about this except that he’s kind of adorable. He’s painted with a nice soft white and green to make him seem particularly squishy and fuzzy in appearance. However his little hair accessory is done in the same metallic blue from before and adds some extra shine to him, keeping him from being too dull or boring.

Coffret pegs into the stand using a clear stand piece and fits on well. With both Cure Marine and Coffret in place, this figure really shines as a display piece. The two of them have so much life and excitement to them, and it really does look fantastic.

I do worry slightly about the figure tilting over time. Initial production photos showed Cure Marine supported with an additional brace for her knee so that the base supports her, but that was not included. All I can do is have faith that this figure will not warp over time.

If you’re like me and think Cure Marine is awesome, this figure is pretty much the high point for Cure Marine collectibles. The detail, sculpt, and paint are all incredibly well done, and is an outstanding piece for any fan of Cure Marine, Precure, magical girls, or just anime in general. She is absolutely worth picking up.

Get your Cure Marine at HobbyLink Japan!

Scale

1/8

Char. Figuarts Cure Peach toy is from the television show Fresh Pretty Cure! and put out by Bandai. S.H. Figuarts is a new figure series that incorporates the action figure “art under the theme of ‘pursuing character expression through humanoid action’.” Cure Peach is one of many different figures from the series.

On the show, Cure Peach plays the role of a 14 year old school girl who loves to dance.

The packaging of the toy was not wasteful, with the exception of perhaps around the stand, and all of the parts are very secure yet easy enough to get out. Thankfully there are no annoying twist ties. With the exception of a few words, all of the packaging is in Japanese.

Overall the package is very colorful and attractive. The toy comes with a stand, three different kinds of hands, and one separate hand. The toy also comes with two faces, which are actually pretty easy to get off. Cure Peach also comes with a wand similar to the one that came with the Cure Berry toy. Her accessories are pretty easy to lose, but they’re pretty sturdy and probably wouldn’t break too easily.

This toy can stand easily, as long as it has the stand. Just like the Cure Berry, the toy needs its feet flat to be able to stand up. The stand puts the toy off balance, and it falls pretty easily, although the toy is very solid and it stands much better than the Cure Berry toy.

The toy’s paint is accurate although the hair is a bit dark. This Cure Peach toy can’t do her signature pose from the television show. Not that much of the body can move with the exception of the hands, feet, and upper arms.

Online, I found the price starting at about $36.00, which is just a little less expensive than the Cure Berry toy. This is a great toy and I’d recommend it for just about anybody.

Scale

Char. The most that I knew about the series was that it was a magical girl show, and that it aired after Kamen Rider in Japan. Of course every so often fanart and figures would show up from these shows, and one character in particular that really caught my eye was Eas from the show Fresh Precure. Well it turned out that Eas ended up becoming one of the Precures in that show known as Cure Passion. I never watched the show, but thought she still looked pretty cool so I figured that since the Figuart is on sale, I'd give it a look.

Cure Passion comes in the pinkest box I've ever seen. It's also one of the larger S.H. Figuart boxes I've seen as well, I'll get more on that later.

Cure Passion out of the box is pretty well sculpted. All the paint applications seem clean and the face sculpt looks pretty good.

Because many of the Precure designs have heels on, it is impossible for them to stand on their own. A stand is included because of this. However, this stand only allows standing positions and is incredibly useless.

With a much better stand, it's easier to get a feel for Cure Passions articulation, which isn't too bad. Ball jointed arms, legs, neck, waist, torso, all of it's tight and fully functioning. Her articulation is limited in the legs unfortunately because of her skirt, which is all sturdy PVC, and does not bend to allow the legs to go any further than about 45 degrees.

Several alternate faces are included. A calm face, a slightly even calmer face, and a shouting face; however I really need to mention something about them that annoys me. Now I know that Good Smile Company with their Figma line has perfected face swapping essentially. However, Bandai and Revoltech are incredibly stubborn and refuse to do it that way. So instead of just having several swappable faces, you get three alternate chunks of face each with their own ball joint. This is just excessive and seems like a waste of production costs.

Cure Passion does come with a fair number of hands. Some fists for punching, hands so that she can make a heart with her hands, some “count up your sins” hands, and an alternate pair for holding her weapon.

The articulation in the elbows really makes it a bit difficult to do this pose.

The hand that's sculpted to hold the Passion Harp does not work at all. It's sculpted like she's doing devil horns, except the horns are only slightly curled to grab onto the harp. It looks good when you get it in a pose, but it falls out incredibly easily.

I mentioned earlier that the box seems slightly thicker than previous S.H. Figuart boxes. That's because of Cure Passions ridiculous hair, which is actually screen accurate so I can't get too mad about it. Unfortunately, Bandai molded all of her hair in very thick heavy PVC, so she is incredibly top heavy. In addition to being top heavy, Cure Passions neck is also on the most useless double ball joint ever created that makes it seem like she's just having difficulties keeping her head upright because it's so heavy.

I knew from the get go that these Precure Figuarts would not be the same quality as the Kamen Rider Figuarts. Despite being prepared with this knowledge, I was still caught off guard by the very limiting skirt, top heavy head, and bizarre head swapping method. Cure Passion is not perfect, but because she was on sale when I purchased her, I don't feel nearly as bad about it in the end I suppose.

Scale

Char. Well after getting the Cure Passion Figuart, I decided to watch a couple episodes of Precure. I first watched some of Fresh Precure and I thought it was alright, but nothing remarkable. Then I watched Heartcatch Precure, and within two days I had watched pretty much all of it. Between the art style and animation, I quickly fell in love with the show. By the time I had finished the show I decided right then and there that I needed to have a Figuart of Cure Marine. Her spunky attitude, awesome fighting skills, and incredibly short stature made her an instant favorite for me.

Cure Marine comes in a very blue box covered in flows. This box is absolutely huge, and the reason for this is her ridiculous hair, more on that later.

Cure Marine once out of the box is very blue. Her outfit is covered in cool colors and soft shapes and patterns. Very stylized, and Bandai did a good job of capturing her animation model in sculpted form.

Marine's hair is all sculpted so that it's flowing in the wind slightly. This also means that her hair is incredibly heavy and is always weighing the figure down.

The articulation on Marine is very similar to Cure Passion, only less hindered since her skirt is much shorter.

Cure Marine comes with a good number of accessories and I'm quite happy with them. She has two alternate faces, an open smile, and a shouting face. Both of these swap much more easily than Cure Passion, with just a peg and hair piece that removes from the giant wad of hair.

She has seven alternate hands, including fists, holding hands, splayed hands, and a pointing hand.

Cure Marine comes with two items she can hold. First is her Kokoro Perfume, which is the transformation device used in this series. It is very tiny, and very easy to lose.

The other item is Cure Marines main weapon: the Marine Tact. It fits snugly into her hand and the prism on it can even spin.

A stand is also included, which is much better than the stand included with Cure Passion. Unfortunately this stand also refused to stay together, so I ended up using a different stand half way through taking these pictures out of frustration.

The best accessory and half of the reason I got this Figuart was this tiny little thing. This is Coffret, Cure Marines fairy partner. He incredibly tiny, well sculpted, and adorable.

His head is even ball jointed!

I was incredibly excited for this Figuart once it was on its way. However now that I have it, I can honestly say that this is the worst Figuart I own. It's incredibly floppy, the waist joint is popping off constantly without reason, the arms pop off every time you try to move them. The hair is STILL that incredibly heavy PVC that makes it impossible for the head to look straight. In fact, Bandai was aware of how heavy the head was, so they included an alternate peg so that she could look straight and not have her head tilt. Only problem being that the peg isn't thick enough, so when you use that peg her head literally ROCKS BACK AND FORTH BECAUSE IT'S SO LOOSE.

This Figuart is flimsy, loose, wobbly, and incredibly frustrating. If it didn't come with Coffret I would think that it was a complete waste of time. The worst part being that I really want to like this Figuart! I love this character and the source material, but there is no denying that this Figuart is just not any good at all. It poses just fine, but because so many joints are loose, it just doesn't stay together. I'd like to think that I just ended up getting a dud Figuart, and that all other Cure Marines are not this bad, but that seems very optimistic of me. I can't recommend this at all, and nothing pains me more to say that about my favorite character, Cure Marine.

I got my Cure Marine at HobbyLink Japan. Get yours there!

Scale

Char. Figuarts Cure Berry toy is from the television show Fresh Pretty Cure! and put out by Bandai. S.H. Figuarts is a new figure series that incorporates the action figure “art under the theme of ‘pursuing character expression through humanoid action’.” Cure Berry is one of many different figures from the series.

On the show, Cure Berry plays the role of a 14 year–old school girl who wants to grow up to be a fashion model and lives in a salon with her mother.

The figure is made of hard, molded plastic with some of the details painted on. The painting is well done, there are no chips, and the colors are bright. Overall, the toy is very well detailed. The Cure Berry figure comes with a stand, but the plastic wrapping around it is annoying to try to get off.

The toy also comes with six different sets of hands in various poses that you can easily change out on the doll, as well as two faces which I find very, very difficult to get off the toy. Cure Berry also comes with a wand, but it does not stay in her hands very well. Her accessories are a little much, because you can lose all of them very easily, especially the tiny hands (therefore not recommended for small children).

This toy is very well built, and should not break very easily. While the hands stay on very well, her ponytail falls out easily. This Cure Berry toy can do her signature pose from the show, minus the hands.

Almost all of her body can move, including her feet, hands, head, knees, and torso. The ponytail also moves – thus the reason it easily falls out.

This toy cannot stand by itself. The stand is needed, and even then it will barely stand. Minor warning here, if the feet are not flat, then she will not fit on the stand at all. The stand puts the toy off balance, and it will easily fall.

The price ranges from $40.00 to $70.00, and compared to the Cure Peach toy it’s a tad bit more expensive, but I think this is worth the money. I usually don’t buy figures like this, but this is one that I would recommend to anybody.

Scale

Char.
