For <i>Fist of the North Star</i>, this honor goes to Shin, Kenshiro's former friend turned mad tyrant. In almost every way, Shin was the complete opposite of FotNS's protagonist. Whereas Ken was stoic, humble, and a master of destroying opponents from the inside, Shin was famous for being bombastic, boisterous, and eliminating his foes from the outside. Also, it was the latter's unstoppable jealously about Kenshiro's girlfriend, Yuria, that ignited a conflict that would shake the post-apocalyptic world in the year 199X. </p> <p>The popularity of Fist of the North Star had an influence that can still be felt today, with long-running comics in the pages of Shounen Jump all following the general pacing and format of their famous forbear. Kaiyodo, having produced many FotNS products in the past, brought the musclebound warriors into the modern era with a subline of Revoltech figures. The so-called "Hokuto No Ken Revolution" series seemed to be quite popular, and as such made its way into Kaiyodo's "Legacy of Revoltech" reissue series. This is great for me, as I missed out on the Shin figure the first time around. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855853-3/revoltech+shin+1.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 1" /></p> <p>Shin stands a little under six inches tall, and is a rather handsome fellow (by this series's standards). He is pretty much a straight reissue of the original Revoltech figure, but with the benefit of the updated Revoltech joints that are tighter and far less prone to popping apart. And, for better or worse, Shin still has the odd cut-swivel style hips that most of the Hokuto No Ken Revolution figures possess. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855952-3/revoltech+shin+9.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 9" /></p> <p>While the hips can be awkward to pose, they do a decent job of allowing for the dynamic poses Kaiyodo's action figures are known for. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855855-3/revoltech+shin+3.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 3" /></p> <p><i>NANTO GOKUSATSU KEN!</i></p> <p>Shin kicks it old school with the classic solid black Revoltech stand. His iconic flying kick of immeasurable kung-fu power is easy for the figure to pull off, though thankfully this Shin can't make people spontaneously bleed from their elbows and knees at the slightest touch. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855951-3/revoltech+shin+8.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 8" /></p> <p>Shin comes with four sets of hands that plug onto the small Revoltech joints in his wrists. Weirdly, it seems like the newer joints have posts that are a bit too long for the open palm type hands, so I ended up just clipping a chunk off them for a better fit. It's not like Kaiyodo themselves haven't done this with with other Revoltech figures before. There's even a little line on each joint showing where they can be cut. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855854-3/revoltech+shin+2.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 2" /></p> <p>His flowing golden locks are nicely sculpted, and feature a hinged mullet to allow for a good range of neck articulation. The expression on Shin's face is a strangely cheeky smile, with his luscious lips pursed in a 'ω' manner. Sadly, this line pre-dates the popular practice of including multiple expressions with each figure, so Shin has to make do without the mad grin he often had in the series. </p> <p>As an aside, it amazes me to think about how many fighting games have a character with short brown hair being the rival of another with long blonde hair. Street Fighter's Ry and Ken, Guilty Gear's Sol and Ky, and even Tekken's Asuka and Lili all follow this motif. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855856-3/revoltech+shin+4.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 4" /></p> <p>For accessories, Shin comes with several sets of hands, included a pair for holding his wicked post-apocalyptic weapons. These are for all the times he'd rather not stain his hands with the blood of unworthy opponents. You can also give them to other Revoltech figures to enhance their "Mad Max" flavor. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855953-3/revoltech+shin+10.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 10" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855954-3/revoltech+shin+11.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 11" /></p> <p>Shin makes dismembering other Revoltechs both bloody and fun! </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855857-3/revoltech+shin+5.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 5" /></p> <p>When Shin needs to demonstrate the power of Nanto Sei Ken, you can use this bloody head accessory. The part is supposed to be used with the "Exploding Zeed Gang Member" Revoltech figure, but anything with a compatible neck joint will do. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855950-3/revoltech+shin+7.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 7" /></p> <p>The power of Nanto Sei Ken allows Shin to pierce his hands through anything, which I honestly think is way cooler than Kenshiro's body-exploding Hokuto Shin Ken techniques. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855858-3/revoltech+shin+6.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 6" /></p> <p>"Yuria... You can end all of Kenshiro's suffering if you'll just say you love me!" </p> <p>"Huaaaaaaaghh! What are you talkin' about you weirdo? My name is Kinnikuman, not Kenshiro!" </p> <p>"Hmmm... but you sound just like him..." </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/855956-3/revoltech+shin+13.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=4d4559a5fb30b7a8da8fa266938a9484" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="revoltech shin 13" /></p> <p>"Kenshiro! Let it be known that every ill deed I have done was all for YUUUURIIAAAAAA!!!"</p> <p>The Legacy of Revoltech Shin is a welcome re-release of a solid figure. The only major downside to this version is its price, as the Legacy version is a full 1,529 yen more than the original release from about seven years prior. While this does drive the toy's appeal further into the niche category, I feel the Revoltech Shin is the kind of toy that both Fist of the North Star enthusiasts and Revoltech aficionados can appreciate.<br /> <br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. All your Saint Seiyas and Dragonball Z's owe a lot to this pioneering work featuring musclebound men using incredible fighting styles to wage their battles across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The hero, Kenshiro, is the successor to Hokuto Shin Ken and is capable of causing his enemies to violently explode with a mere touch. His overall look was inspired by actors like Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Lee with the added wardrobe of Mel Gibson from <i>Mad Max</i> as the final part of Kenshiro's ultimate 80's ensemble. <i>Hokuto No Ken</i> is such a long lasting and recognizable property that it still gets new spinoffs and merchandise made to this day. </p> <p>Despite all this it never really caught on in America. Under the English title of <i>Fist of the North Star</i>, the series languished with a poorly dubbed version of its feature film and an incomplete release of both the manga and anime. While the rest of the world fell in love with the series, American just scoffed at the over the top violence and spotty English translations that failed to gain any traction here. There have been efforts to rectify these mistakes with the entire anime being made available on Crunchyroll and numerous fan translations of the manga. The damage had been done though as the series never reached the same heights some say it could have achieved. </p> <p>When the market for manga in America exploded in 2002, Raijin Comics, a division of Japanese publisher Coamix, served as a monthly anthology that brought high profile titles like <i>Fist of the Blue Sky</i>, a prequel to <i>Fist of the North Star.</i> The fact that the character of Kenshiro still had clout with American consumers made it possible for Raijin Comics to team up with Kaiyodo to produce a limited edition action figure. So dial up to AOL and get your trendy cellular phones out 'cause we're heading back to about twelve years ago with this review! </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719206-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+1.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 1" /></p> <p>When I first got this figure in the mail I was genuinely amazed to see it in one of those impossible to open plastic clamshell packages. These things are even less collector friendly than regular cards and usually require a sharp pair of scissors to open. Still the figure looks great even when it's in mint condition. The packaging is eye-catching and totally looks like it should still be hanging on a rack in a Newbury Comics. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719207-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+2.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 2" /></p> <p>The back has a powerful illustration of Kenshiro done by manga artist Tetsuo Hara as well as pictures of the toy. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719319-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+3.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 3" /></p> <p>This is the face of a man who has achieved ultimate sorrow. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719208-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+4.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 4" /></p> <p>The package promises some "eye water." He is mostly made out of PVC plastic with some hard ABS used in some of his joints. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719285-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+24.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 24" /></p> <p>At around seven and a half inches tall, Kenshiro is a pretty sizable figure. He's much larger than Kaiyodo's more recent Revoltech figures based on <i>Hokuto No Ken</i> characters. Although given the haphazard and often heavily stylized scaling in the series, having Kenshiro tower over others isn't necessarily a bad thing. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719210-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+6.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 6" /></p> <p>The hunched up shoulders and slightly arched back reflect a more stylized depiction of Kenshiro is often posed in the series. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719214-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+10.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 10" /></p> <p>Kenshiro's head sculpt pretty good with his dour expression and feathered hair looking about right for a figure this old. His brow is a little too pronounced which makes it difficult to see his eyes without shining light right underneath his chin. Unfortunately the choice of a big metal pin for the neck joint makes him look like Frankenstein. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719247-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+19.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 19" /></p> <p><i>No boy! No cry!</i></p> <p>Upon closer inspection I think I see where the "eye water" comes into play as it appears Kenshiro is crying. The slightly misty eyed look with an extra dab of shiny white paint seems to be a deliberate attempt at manly tears. Fans of the series know that the few times Kenshiro weeps means a terrible tragedy has befallen the world. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719211-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+7.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 7" /></p> <p>The figure is well detailed all around and features excellent shading on his outfit. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719215-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+11.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 11" /></p> <p>That one arm wrapping that keeps bursting off his bulging muscles is well executed with a crisp sculpt and paint that makes it look appropriately weathered. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719213-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+9.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 9" /></p> <p>All the little zippers and buttons on his trademark vest are picked out with silver paint. The idea is that all of these working together allow the figure to pose without a lot of clearly visible joints. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719283-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+22.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 22" /></p> <p>Overall the articulation on this figure is passable. It's a far cry from the dynamic flexibility of a modern Revoltech and is even lacking when compared to other mono-shaft figures. Movement is imprecise with some of the joints feeling a bit gummy. It's the kind of figure that needs to spend time in the freezer and then gently moved to break excess paint that may have stuck the joints. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719243-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+15.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 15" /></p> <p>Kenshiro's legs do still have a good range of motion as the hips can splay out a bit and his knees can bend ninety degrees. His elbows can also bend about that much. The biggest issue is how his ankles are just a pair of cut swivels in his boots. They don't move in a logical manner and don't even tilt inward enough to keep his feet flat on the ground. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719284-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+23.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 23" /></p> <p>Despite his wonky ankles he still stands up well enough. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719311-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+32.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 32" /></p> <p>There's still a lot of manly swagger in this old figure. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719287-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+26.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 26" /></p> <p>And he's definitely got the right attitude. There's some interesting joint work going on inside his chest like a pair of moving pectoral regions that allow his arms to travel inward at the shoulder. His upper arms also have a bicep swivel that moves right below his bulging shoulder muscles. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719310-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+31.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 31" /></p> <p><i>OOOOO WAAATAAAAAAAAAA!</i></p> <p>He can still rear up for a strong punch! The sculpting in his chest does an admirable job of hiding the swivel joint right below his pecs. The only thing that give it away is the travelling disconnected zipper on his vest. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719313-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+34.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 34" /></p> <p>Kenshiro can sorta turn is head left or right and that big honking metal pin lets him looking downward a little more than usual. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719288-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+27.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 27" /></p> <p>The nunchaku peg delicately into his palms and feature a real metal chain. Despite barely ever using them a lot of figures tend to include this weapon because hey Kenshiro is part Bruce Lee. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719289-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+28.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 28" /></p> <p>The back of the box features a nice shot of Kenshiro holding the nunchaku in that familiar pose with one end in hand the other tucked under his arm. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719291-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+30.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 30" /></p> <p>In actuality this is really difficult to pull off because there is no good way of securing one end under his armpit without just jamming it in there and hoping for the best. Maybe if there was an extra hole in Kenshiro's side so the nunchaku could plug in then I could see this working. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719244-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+16.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 16" /></p> <p>This figure was released before included display stands were widely used so I had to improvise a bit with a Tamashii Stage Act 5. Sadly this Kenshiro cannot do a proper jump kick. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719246-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+18.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 18" /></p> <p>orz</p> <p>And so he falls down having not performed the Hokuto Hiei Ken. This leads us to another weird thing about this figure. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719245-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+17.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 17" /></p> <p><b><i>BUTT FLAP</b></i></p> <p>So in an attempt to articulate Kenshiro's hips without messing up his posterior, this figure is designed with a rubbery flap that does not even attempt to stay connected when his legs are posed. It looks so wrong and feels very squishy but I'm sure all of us reading this review cannot help but stare. </p> <p>Ahem. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719314-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+35.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 35" /></p> <p>Since the butt flap isn't noticeable from the front, I say pose away! At the very least this figure can do the Hokuto Ujou Moushouha! Souther doesn't stand a chance! </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/719312-3/raijin+comics+kenshiro+33.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=5cfba0e11eee89b1c551bc6010e96503" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="raijin comics kenshiro 33" /></p> <p>"Of this review I have no regrets! I hold an open hand to the heavens as hope for a brighter tomorrow!" </p> <p>In the end the Raijin Comics Original Figure Kenshiro is an odd curiosity from the beginning of the collector's toy market and the North American manga boom. While it is outclassed by modern toys in terms of articulation, it's still a serviceable toy that every fan of <i>Hokuto No Ken</i> should totally buy because it's such a weird time capsule I find it is worth the price of admission. Even if you just want to hang it on your wall as a memento to the past it still looks great in the package. It is much less an action figure and more an adjustable statue, but one that has enough size and swagger to make it a noticeably addition to your collection. There's so much merchandise of Kenshiro out there that sometimes it's fascinating to take a closer look at an older piece like this. </p> <p><b><a href="http://jungle-scs.co.jp/sale_en/?page_id=245/">Jungle Hobby Shop</a></b> has these for sale for only 840 yen! That's a great price for this figure! <br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. Like all long running Shonen series, its the kind of thing that is defined by memorable villains. Raoh is almost legendary in Japan You'd have to be to get buried with a real funeral just as a movie promotion. The man who strive to become the end of the century ruler is now available in Revoltech form. This figure represents Raoh during his final fight at the end of the series. I won't get too heavy into spoilers so just sit back and enjoy the shirtless muscleman. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488768-1/raoh1.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="640" height="475" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh1.JPG" /></p> <p>First off I'd like to take a look at the packaging. I've been slacking on my Revoltech purchasers so I was a bit surprised to see this guy in box. I swear there's more filler than the Hokuto no Ken anime series. Everything from the figure itself to the stand and even the Revoltech token have their own spot on in the tray. It's a bit much for Raoh. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488772-1/raoh2.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="377" height="563" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh2.JPG" /></p> <p>Like the previous Rei figure I review, Raoh has an incredibly well done paint job. Every little detail is done with the same level of quality as a model. Raoh stands well enough with or without his stand. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488774-1/raoh3.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="303" height="461" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh3.JPG" /></p> <p>Raoh features the same joint scheme as Rei where most of his joints are done with the trademark Revoltech clicky joints with the only major exception being his hips which are mono-shaft style. The suspenders on his pants are also movable. His hips are kind of strange. They can't quite move the same way as a normal figure's but it still works well enough. Its kind of personal preference with the Hokuto no Ken figures. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488776-1/raoh4.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="640" height="499" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh4.JPG" /></p> <p>Up close you can get a feel of the figure's paint job. His skin features nice subtle highlighting and his hair is nice a crisp with little to no paint globbing. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488779-1/raoh5.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="558" height="590" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh5.JPG" /></p> <p>Raoh's few accessories include his signature crown. Compared to the original design it looks slightly oversized. Still its detailed and spiky. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488781-1/raoh6.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="571" height="600" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh6.JPG" /></p> <p><i>Tenshou Honretsu!</i></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488783-1/raoh7.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="564" height="583" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh7.JPG" /></p> <p><i>Hokuto Goushouha!</i></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488785-1/raoh8.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="600" height="607" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh8.JPG" /></p> <p><i>Musou Insatsu!</i></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488787-1/raoh9.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="638" height="462" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh9.JPG" /></p> <p><i>Dooreyaaaaaah!</i></p> <p>(his flying kick doesn't have a cool name)</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/488789-1/raoh10.JPG?g2_GALLERYSID=68e177934a2896b914944750fc339043" width="640" height="507" class="giThumbnail" alt="raoh10.JPG" /></p> <p><i>Behold! While its a nice figure, he's a bit more sparse than your typical Hokuto no Ken Revoltech. I feel like a shirtless chest could have just been included with the standard figure somehow. Maybe you're a completest or you may just like shirtless men, but Raoh is still a great figure. <br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. I mean, I must have liked it enough to watch all of it, right? With all the crazy martial artist running around, all with their own unique gimmicks I find that the school of Nanto Seiken is the most interesting. As much as exploding people's heads (and other parts) can be, slicing people up like a living blade is just downright cool. </p> <p>Rei is one of these practitioners who uses a specific style called Nanto Suicho Ken. With it, Rei is able to slice almost anything with a wave of his hands. Easily one of my favorite characters. For the 25th anniversary of the franchise, Kaiyodo is releasing several Hokuto No Ken characters through their Revoltech Revolution line. How does their Rei measure up? Let's find out. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473383-5/rei1.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="279" height="578" class="giThumbnail" alt="Rei front." /></p> <p>At first glance, Rei is quite detailed. All of the belts, buckles, pads, etc. are nicely painted with little to no apparent defects. Rei is styled after his look in the recent Hokuto no Ken OVAs, which in turn is modeled after his look in the manga. The TV series is the only place where Rei has a primarily green outfit with minty fresh hair. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473384-5/rei2.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="310" height="593" class="giThumbnail" alt="Rei back." /></p> <p>From the rear we can see the stand mount and some more of his Revoltech joints. Rei has thirteen Revoltech joints in total. They are found in his neck, shoulders, shoulder pads, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles. He has three sets of hands, which includes a pair of fists, and two sets with his fingers splayed out in <i>slightly</i> different ways. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473385-5/rei3.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="537" height="349" class="giThumbnail" alt="Fang Clan goon." /> </p> <p>Rei's largest accessory is this Fang Clan midget. This guy was originally included in a much older Rei semi-fixed pose figure. When Rei is introduced to the story, the Fang Clan are the current antagonists. Like any good tribe of post-apocalyptic thugs, the Fang Clan employs small guys for the purpose of leaping off the backs of bigger guys. Fang Clan guy comes with a sword and an axe, which he can wield in his right hand.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473386-5/rei4.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="553" height="316" class="giThumbnail" alt="Fang Clan goon sliced." /></p> <p>This little bugger's only feature is some sliced and diced action. The sliding action isn't particularly smooth, but the overall effect is nice.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473387-5/rei5.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="596" height="447" class="giThumbnail" alt="Close up." /></p> <p>Up close, the detailing is readily apparent. Lots of subtle shading around his skin, clothing, and hair along with the excellent detailing in Rei's outfit make for an eye catching figure. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473388-5/rei6.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="539" height="418" class="giThumbnail" alt="Profile." /></p> <p>In profile we can see that Rei is rocking an epic mullet worthy of John Stamos. Also note the textured look of Rei's shoulder pads. Up close it has the look and feel of embattled metal. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473389-5/rei7.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="570" height="349" class="giThumbnail" alt="Knee detail." /></p> <p>Rei's kneepads have the same metal texture. It's really well done.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473390-5/rei8.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="401" height="573" class="giThumbnail" alt="Nanto Koharyu!" /></p> <p><i>Nanto Ko Ha Ryu!</i></p> <p>Rei poses as well as any Revoltech figure. The toy includes a small leaflet that suggests that you should use pliers to rotate all of his joints to remove the initial stiffness from assembly. I find needle-nose pliers with electrical tape around the ends works well for this. Kaiyodo also suggests using their patented Revolpliers, which are designed to grip Revoltech joints.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473391-5/rei9.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="426" height="451" class="giThumbnail" alt="Crouching." /></p> <p>Perhaps my biggest complaint with this figure are the old style Mono-shaft joints in his hips. They do not offer a full range of motion, and while they do not stand out as much as the Revoltech joints I just find them awkward. Putting Rei in a natural pose can be difficult with these joints. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473392-5/rei10.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="484" height="417" class="giThumbnail" alt="Leaping" /></p> <p>Rei comes packed with the ubiquitous Revoltech stand. This may or may not be the stand that comes with Rei. They're mostly identical so it doesn't matter anymore. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473393-5/rei11.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="428" height="570" class="giThumbnail" alt="Hien Ryubu!" /></p> <p><i> Hien Ryubu!</i></p> <p>As you can see, Rei stays secure on the stand in any position.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473394-5/rei12.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="333" height="586" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jumping" /></p> <p><i>Syaaaaoooooo!</i></p> <p>If you're really ambitious, you can plug Rei's right foot into the Revoltech joint on the stand to make him leap even higher. This is not especially stable and takes some time to balance.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473395-5/rei13.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="472" height="458" class="giThumbnail" alt="Hishou Hakurei!" /></p> <p><i>Hisho Hakurei!</i></p> <p>The joints in his arms in addition to the jointed shoulder pads allow Rei to perform many of his classic moves. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473396-5/rei14.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="456" height="466" class="giThumbnail" alt="Revoltech Reis" /></p> <p><i>Revoltech Rei vs. Revoltech Rei</i></p> <p>This is just a silly comparison. Although I must admit Rei looks a lot bigger in photos than Rei usually does. </p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/473397-5/rei15.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=6967f4421447f835d7d2145117c55dc0" width="552" height="450" class="giThumbnail" alt="An epic battle" /></p> <p><i>The CollectionDX debate has escalated</i></p> <p>Overall, Revoltech Rei is an excellent figure. He looks great and poses really well. Really a top class action figure that is quite above some of the regular Revoltech toys in terms of execution. Kaiyodo has also released a white haired version that reflects the later parts of Rei's story. I'd be interested in an TV show colored version, but that's probably not going to happen. Truly a toy that is as graceful as a swan on the water.</p> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hn_nC2qwY10&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Hn_nC2qwY10&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object><p><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char.
