If that toy left you wanting anything, the only thing it left you wanting was MORE. Well, here it is, the Jet Scrander wing set! This set includes not only Mazinger Z's signature wings, but also a bonus set of Kyoukagata rocket punch fists.</p> <p>As I usually do, I'll comment on the box first before getting to the toy itself. Although it is a companion piece to the Mazinger Z, it comes in a drastically different box than that toy. This one is a tight, compact box with very elegant and sharp corners. It projects a much more high end quality than any brown cardboard box has a right to. It's decorated with a 2 color printing with an old school design. It really harkens back to an old school space toy box.</p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881248-3/IMG_9638.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="368" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881175-3/IMG_9641.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="365" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881176-3/IMG_9642.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="244" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881174-3/IMG_9639.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="219" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881177-3/IMG_9643.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="385" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>Inside the box, all the pieces are stored safely in plastic bags packed in a cardboard tray with cardboard inserts. A little bag with stickers and screws is stapled down, too. I didn't see any spot where the stickers are specifically designed to go so I think they're just optional. I think it looks fine without them, so I didn't apply them to mine. </p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881178-3/IMG_9644.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="334" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>The cardboard inserts can be safely lifted out to allow you to access all the pieces. </p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881179-3/IMG_9645.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="523" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881181-3/IMG_9647.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="323" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>Here are the smaller pieces to the set.</p> <div align="center"><img src="/gallery2/d/881180-3/IMG_9646.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="425" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>The belt of the Jet Scrander needs to be attached via the included screws. They are molded in such a way that they do not rest properly if you do not put them in right, which is helpful since there are not actual instructions included. However, it can be a bit tricky to actually screw them in if you don't have just the right sized screwdriver, since the belt curves back around to where your hand will be operating and because the waist piece attaches via magnets, which causes them to be attracted to the same spot. That said, it isn't too hard if you just take you time. The white of the belt is a flexible plastic so you can just push it aside. You only need two screws, one on each wing, to connect it but an extra two are included should you accidentally drop or lose one. This is where you attach the screws.</p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881183-3/IMG_9649.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>The front of the belt is also attached by screws, but these ones come already installed.</p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881186-3/IMG_9652.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>Once it is assembled, at a glance the Jet Scrander is very reminiscent of the vintage Jumbo Jet Scrander, either the Popy one of the <a href="http://www.iquantascores.com/toy_review/2000/jet_scrander">Unifive one</a>, but on closer inspection it is much, much nicer. It has a shiny, glossy yellow plastic on the main body with a nice chrome detail at the front and on the exhausts. The wings are nice red blow molded polyethylene that when placed on Mazinger Z, match up nicely with the red pieces on it's chest. </p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881184-3/IMG_9650.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="484" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881182-3/IMG_9648.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="559" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881185-3/IMG_9651.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="513" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>When you add the Jet Scrander and the upgraded rocket punches, the already amazing Mazinger Z flies to even greater heights.</p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881187-3/IMG_9653.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="526" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881188-3/IMG_9654.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="492" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881191-3/IMG_9657.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="408" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>As I said earlier, the Jet Scrander wraps around the waist and the yellow parts connect via strong magnets. At first, I thought it might be a bit awkward to separate them, but I've found that the trick to doing it is to place your thumbs on the the top of the yellow parts and push them apart, rather than trying to wedge in between them. </p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881190-3/IMG_9656.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>Where this Jet Scrander really surpasses the older ones is in the articulation of the wings. Yes, you read that right, the wings here can be raised and lowered to represent the different flight modes of the robot. Better still, when the wings move down, flames extent out from the exhausts! The wings click into each position and remain in place.</p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881210-3/IMG_9660.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="292" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881211-3/IMG_9661.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="432" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881212-3/IMG_9662.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="500" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>The flames themselves are clear plastic with a secondary detail inside to give it a more realistic appearance. </p> <div align="center"> <img src="/gallery2/d/881213-3/IMG_9663.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=f320700db4b84d8d061c5853440632e2" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>In my opinion, the Toysmen 001 Mazinger Z is arguably the best Mazinger Z toy out there and as great as it is on it's own, it only gets better when you add the follow up Jet Scrander and rocket punch set. If you already have (or plan to get) the Mazinger Z, you owe it to yourself to add this set as well. You won't be disappointed. After the initial release of the Mazinger Z, people were flipping the toy at auction at exorbitant prices almost right away so I highly suggest you order directly from the source before they are sold out. The set retails for $230 plus shipping and can be ordered from my friend Alan at the addresses below:</p> <div align="center"> <p>The Toy Shop<br /> Contact person : Mr. Alan Lau<br /> WhatsApp : +852 51330151<br /> Email: <a href="mailto:mandaorke@gmail.com">mandaorke@gmail.com</a><br /> Facebook: Manda Orke<br /> IG: mandaorke </p> </div> <p><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. What's this a bootleg of? Turns out this is a copy of the UniFive Great Mazinger Scramble Dash. I am normally not for 1:1 bootleg items - I prefer my bootlegs to be radical re-imaginings. But in this case I think the item has a legitimately cool use - to outfit that Mattel Shogun that never came with a wing! To get this wing alone on the aftermarket would cost you a ton of money. The jets on the side do slide forward and back while the wings clip in allowing you to remove and readjust them for flight mode. The waist clip is made of soft PVC and wraps around and clips onto itself to lock into place. It doesn't attach directly to the Jet Scrander leaving you a wider range of motion around the waist with it on. A good decision in my opinion.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/551996-3/SRCmazWeaponSet10.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=19ec1aac82e54aea78dc516f07df5336" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="SRCmazWeaponSet10" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/552002-3/SRCmazWeaponSet16.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=19ec1aac82e54aea78dc516f07df5336" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="SRCmazWeaponSet16" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/552004-3/SRCmazWeaponSet18.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=19ec1aac82e54aea78dc516f07df5336" width="480" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="SRCmazWeaponSet18" /></p> <p>I'd normally give Bandai a harder time over not including these accessories in the initial release but Mazinger Z is cheaper than other Super Robot Chogokin releases so even when you combine the cost of the figure and accessory pack it comes out cheaper than the larger SOC release and other SRC releases, leaving it up to the collector if they want extra parts and pieces without forcing the costs on everyone.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/552006-3/SRCmazWeaponSet20.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=19ec1aac82e54aea78dc516f07df5336" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="SRCmazWeaponSet20" /></p> <p>If you’re getting a Mazinger Z you should also order a Mazinger Weapon Set and get some cool rocket punch action!</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/552008-3/SRCmazWeaponSet22.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=19ec1aac82e54aea78dc516f07df5336" width="640" height="480" class="giThumbnail" alt="SRCmazWeaponSet22" /><br /> <br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. I'm not sure what it's called, but it's certainly come kind of sickness that compels me to buy these things.</p> <div><img src="/gallery2/d/475542-5/1.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=86545e570dff750115b973ab254c55a4" width="640" height="540" class="giThumbnail" alt=" Paladin de le Justicia Lanza Puno " /></div> <p>As you can see, this thing comes in a box with a cellophane window and a header card to hang it by. Honestly, for a knockoff, I think it actually has a nicer visual appeal than many of the real accessory sets since it actually shows a robot on the front. The flying pose on the header is particular interesting since most toy packages would tend to show a fully upright image of the robot rather than one flying at you. Unfortunately, it seems like the box is somewhat fragile and mine is probably not strong enough to actually be hung up by that header. At some point, I may have to find a good wall spot for it and try surrounding it with push pins for added support.</p> <div><img src="/gallery2/d/475544-5/3.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=86545e570dff750115b973ab254c55a4" width="640" height="324" class="giThumbnail" alt=" Paladin de le Justicia Lanza Puno " /></div> <p>Inside the box, the toy rests in a piece of cardboard with a hole cut out to match the shape of it.</p> <div><img src="/gallery2/d/475545-5/4.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=86545e570dff750115b973ab254c55a4" width="640" height="369" class="giThumbnail" alt=" Paladin de le Justicia Lanza Puno " /></div> <p>So, what exactly is this thing? Well, basically it's just a gun handle with the right fist of the jumbo attached to it. Of course, you can see that it also retains the shoulder shield of Reideen on it, too. This toy is licensed from Toei Animation, but like the jumbo, I suspect that Popy had no idea that their toys were being copied.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/475546-5/5.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=86545e570dff750115b973ab254c55a4" width="640" height="337" class="giThumbnail" alt=" Paladin de le Justicia Lanza Puno " /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/475547-5/6.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=86545e570dff750115b973ab254c55a4" width="640" height="363" class="giThumbnail" alt=" Paladin de le Justicia Lanza Puno " /></p> <p>Although there is a handle to grip this "gun" by, the rest of it is simply the exact same thing as on the robot. Therefore, the firing mechanism is still just a tab on the top. In order to fire the fist, you'd actually have to use both hands.</p> <p>Basically this is a pretty silly toy that is useful mostly for completing an incomplete "Mazinger Z: Paladin de le Justicia", or for adding to a knucklehead&rsquo;s collection of stupid crap.</p> <p><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. It features an image of both modes of the toy, along with a Robo Kress riding it. Maybe even more interesting than that are the sides of the box. Two sides feature images of Junior Machinders!</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/490502-1/2.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=e972def1656c4f3e2362f7a8dab4ea4f" width="400" height="250" class="giThumbnail" alt="Modulo Spaziale" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/490504-1/3.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=e972def1656c4f3e2362f7a8dab4ea4f" width="400" height="245" class="giThumbnail" alt="Modulo Spaziale" /></p> <p>What's interesting about these pictures is not just that it shows some Juniors that were made, but that some of the ones pictured were not even made by the company that made this toy! On top of that, some of them are color variations from the known specimens. Some even have white belts, as opposed to the traditional black. I've never seen these before, and it makes me think these may be pictures of prototypes. </p> <p>The toy itself is less interesting to me. It's clearly inspired by the Jumbo Machinder XX-11 jumbo "car" by Popy, but does more than just copy the idea of having something for the toys to ride on. Instead, it takes it shape from the feet of Voltes V, and features an opening cockpit. When not being ridden by a robot, the toy makes a much nicer looking vehicle with nice, reflective chrome on the sides. There are also chrome exhaust pipes on the back.</p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/490516-1/9.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=e972def1656c4f3e2362f7a8dab4ea4f" width="400" height="310" class="giThumbnail" alt="Modulo Spaziale" /><br /> <img src="/gallery2/d/490514-1/8.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=e972def1656c4f3e2362f7a8dab4ea4f" width="400" height="311" class="giThumbnail" alt="Modulo Spaziale" /></p> <p>With or without a robot riding on top, this toy moves back and forth, operated by a 9-volt battery and 6 AA batteries. When turned on, it will begin to move forward. A click of a button on a remote handle sends a signal to the sensor, causing it to reverse direction. Mine really doesn't work very well, though. One of the back wheels has a tendency to fall off, but I really don't care much. </p> <p>At the time I took the pictures for this review, I really only had one Junior Machinder that would actually fit in the designated area. </p> <div align="center"><img src="/gallery2/d/490522-1/12.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=e972def1656c4f3e2362f7a8dab4ea4f" width="419" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="Modulo Spaziale" /></div> <p>Although I haven't bothered to apply them, a sticker sheet is also included for you to add detail to the rest of the hard plastic body.</p> <div align="center"><img src="/gallery2/d/490524-1/13.jpg?g2_GALLERYSID=e972def1656c4f3e2362f7a8dab4ea4f" width="640" height="400" class="giThumbnail" alt="Modulo Spaziale" /></div> <p>In closing, this isn't really a great toy and is probably only for the most hardcore of Junior Machinder collectors. I really wanted to get it to display the box, but mostly because I wanted to see what toys were pictured on the side. I knew some were there, but there were no on-line images where you could see them. Perhaps now that there is, some interested collectors can save a few bucks.</p> <p><br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char. Most of them have nothing to do with the toys they go on and only serve to make a very cool robot look worse than it does in it's original form. And in such a difficult, expensive hobby, why should I spend my cash on them while there are still Jumbos out there that I don't have? Especially when you consider how easy it is to get the accessories! It's not like they won't be available later. They are always on Yahoo!Japan and litter toy shops all over Tokyo. Sure, I've had a couple in my collection here and there, but mostly as the result of trades, bulk purchases or people just flat out giving them to me.</p> <p>However, one accessory did always intrigue me and that is the Jet Scrander (&#12472;&#12455;&#12483;&#12488;&#12473;&#12463;&#12521;&#12531;&#12640;&#12540;) that goes with <a href="http://www.iquantascores.com/node/1461">Mazinger Z</a>. Much like the Scramble Dash accessory that comes with the <a href="http://www.iquantascores.com/node/1640">Unifive Great Mazinger</a>, this makes your Unifive Mazinger Z seem like a whole new toy. It's so much cooler with the wings on. This set is a necessity, not an accessory.</p> <div align="center"><img src="/gallery2/d/82377-5/5.jpg" width="490" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>When I received the package, I was surprised at how small the box was. It measures only 9"x6"x4". The toy itself comes in several <a href="http://www.iquantascores.com/gallery/v/Toys/UniFive/JumboMachines/Accessories/U5ZJetScrander/8.jpg.html">parts</a> and needs to be put together. Directions are printed on the back of the box, but it's really simple to figure out just by looking at it. Although it connects at the waist differently than I would have imagined. The yellow crest is actually a loose piece with two tabs on the back. You place the larger tab into the corresponding hole on one side of the "belt" and then slide the smaller one upwards along a curved opening on the other side. It has the effect of tightening his "belt", in a way. Nothing actually snaps into place or anything like that, yet it remains securely in place.</p> <div align="center"><img src="/gallery2/d/82374-5/2.jpg" width="640" height="436" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></div> <p>Like the rest of the Unifive Jumbo Machine line, this is also based on an vintage Popy toy. I've never held that one, but I assume it is basically identical to the new version. Strangely, both the new and vintage versions tend to sell for about the same price. </p> <p>The Jet Scrander has a wingspan of slightly more than 18.5" across when assembled and will add roughly 4" to the depth of your Mazinger Z Jumbo. This makes it harder to display on a shelf, but it's a small price to pay for the added cool factor.</p> <div align="center"><img src="/gallery2/d/82378-5/6.jpg" width="640" height="440" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></div> <div align="center"><img src="/gallery2/d/82382-5/10.jpg" width="468" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></div> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82380-5/8.jpg" width="471" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82379-5/7.jpg" width="640" height="508" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82378-5/6.jpg" width="640" height="440" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82377-5/5.jpg" width="490" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82374-5/2.jpg" width="640" height="436" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82382-5/10.jpg" width="468" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82373-7/1.jpg" width="640" height="440" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82376-5/4.jpg" width="640" height="313" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82381-5/9.jpg" width="627" height="640" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /></p> <p><img src="/gallery2/d/82375-5/3.jpg" width="640" height="278" class="giThumbnail" alt="U5-Z Jet Scrander" /><br /> <br class="giImageBlock-clear-both" /></p></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-scale"> <h3 class="field-label">Scale</h3> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item"></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-chardesign"> <h3 class="field-label">Char.
